Endodontic therapy consists of the removal of diseased or severly damaged pulp tissue (soft tissue, blood vessels, nerves) from the inside of the tooth in an effort to save the tooth and prevent further infection, pain and inflammation. The channels inside of the tooth's roots (root canals) are thoroughly cleansed and shaped using small instruments and then sealed to prevent re-infection and to promote healing. With properly performed endodontic and restorative therapy, teeth can function normally for a lifetime.
